WED CELEBRATION 2016 IN PORT HARCOURT ZOO.
Wold Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on June 5th to raise a global awareness to a positive Environmental action in protecting the planet earth. It run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It was established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1972 during the occasion on united conference on human environment in Stockholm .Each years WED celebration comes with a theme, and this years theme focus on fight against trade on illegal wild life. We therefore join ANGELO this years global host who had made tremendous commitment to bring back wild life crime , restore its elephant herds, converse African biodiversity-rich wild life and safeguard the environment.
Let us come together with one mind and one voice to empower people to understand the damage the illegal trade in wild life is doing to our environment, Economies, communities and security.
Each year, thousands of wild animals are illegally killed, often by organisms criminal network motivated by profit and greed; said Secretary General BAN KI MOON.
I call on all Government and people everywhere to support the New United Nations Campaign wild for life which aims to mobilize the world and end this destructive trade. preserving wild life crucial for the well begin of people and planet alike. The campaign is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) , the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations on Drugs and Crime( UNODC)and Convection on International Trade Endangered Specie of wild fauna and floral(CITES), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and World Bank. During the 2nd United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA2), all of these bodies aimed to mobilize millions to end illegal trade in wild life.
It kills my spirit when i hear stories of wild life destruction here to there which includes animals and forest without considering danger despite our knowledge power. This extinction of wild life has really affected our economy, environment, communities , security and more specially the great damage to livelihood of local communities who depends solely on tourism.
For this reasons, we urge all of us from different sectors with our power and knowledge to this year’s WED celebration awareness to SAY NO to illegal wild life trade.By so doing,we are encouraging and helping United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) achieve there aim in article 13 to avoid the treat of environment degradation, biodiversity and people’s livelihood as well disturbs peace.
Let join the UN to become the agent of change by going WILD FOR LIFE and say NO to illegal trade on Wild life.it has long over due . let fight the fight for our planet earth.
“Who so ever you are and where ever you live please GO WILD FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!! to save the planet for its better services”
